An Award contains the minimum terms and conditions of employment for employees covered by the Award including minimum wages, regular hours of work, overtime pay rates, allowances etc. The terms and conditions have to be the same or better than the NES.

An Award will cover an employee who performs work within the scope of the Award, which depends on your job and the industry you work in. Jobs in the retail and hospitality industries are usually covered by an Award and so are admin jobs. If your job is covered by an Award, your employer must comply with the terms and conditions in the Award.
